Misterbianco is the third most popular village in the metropolitan city of Catania and is only 6km from the center of Catania. In ancient times, the village was built at the bottom of the slopes of Etna with fertile lands and crossed by the Amenano river. The town's name derives from Monasterium Album, a monastery inhabited by probably Dominican monks who wore a white habit, this monastery was destroyed together with the ancient village by the eruption of Etna in 1669.
